Who we are

Coastal Diesel & Marine (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates this website at https://coastaldieselmarine.com.au. We are a commercial marine diesel mechanic and auto-electrical business based at Lawrie’s Boat Yard, 12 Orana Street, Buddina QLD 4575, Australia.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information when you visit our website, contact us, or engage us for services. We are committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

What personal information we collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

  • Contact information you give us — your name, business name, phone number, email address, and any vessel or job details you supply when you submit a “Request a Service” form, call, email, or message us on social media.
  • Service details — vessel make and model, engine information, location, photos you send through, and the nature of the work requested.
  • Billing information — name, business name, postal/billing address, ABN where applicable, and payment details processed through our accounting software.
  • Technical information automatically collected when you visit the website — IP address, browser type and version, referring URLs, pages visited, approximate location (city level), device type, and timestamps.
  • Cookie and analytics data (see “Cookies and analytics” below).

We do not knowingly collect “sensitive information” as defined in the Privacy Act. Please don’t send us sensitive information unless we’ve specifically asked for it.

How we collect it

We collect personal information directly from you when you:

  • Submit a contact or “Request a Service” form on this website
  • Phone, email, SMS or message us on social media
  • Engage us to perform work on your vessel
  • Provide information in person at our workshop

We also collect technical information automatically through standard server logs and analytics tools, and we may receive information about you from third parties such as Volvo Penta (for warranty registration) or referral sources.

Why we collect and use your personal information

We use your personal information to:

  • Respond to your enquiry and provide quotes
  • Schedule, perform and follow up on the services you’ve engaged us for
  • Source parts and coordinate with suppliers (including Volvo Penta and Oceania Power) and trade partners
  • Issue invoices and process payment
  • Keep records as required for warranty, insurance and compliance
  • Improve our website, content and services
  • Comply with our legal obligations
  • Send you, with your consent, updates about our services — you can opt out at any time

We will not use your personal information for any other purpose without your consent, unless we are permitted or required to do so by law.

Who we share your information with

We only share personal information where it’s necessary to deliver our services or operate our business. This may include:

  • Volvo Penta and Oceania Power — for warranty registration, parts supply and warranty claims where relevant to your job.
  • Other marine trade partners working on the same vessel (e.g. boat builders, marine electricians, sailmakers) — only with your knowledge.
  • Service providers that help us run the business — our hosting provider (Hostinger), email provider, accounting software, backup and security tools, and analytics tools.
  • Professional advisers — accountants, lawyers and insurers, under confidentiality.
  • Government agencies, regulators or law enforcement where required or authorised by law.

We do not sell your personal information.

Storage and security

We store personal information on our website host, in our business email, and in our accounting and job-management software. We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure — including SSL/TLS encryption on this website, secure passwords, access controls, and regular backups.

No method of online transmission or storage is 100% secure. If we become aware of an “eligible data breach” affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

Cookies and analytics

This website uses cookies and similar technologies to make the site work, remember your preferences, and understand how visitors use the site. We may use:

  • Essential cookies — required for the site to function (forms, security, session).
  • Analytics cookies — e.g. Google Analytics, to measure visits and user behaviour in aggregate. These do not personally identify you.
  • Functional cookies — set by embedded tools such as Google Maps, contact forms, or social media embeds.

You can disable or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site may not work correctly without them.

Third-party links

This website may contain links to third-party websites — including Volvo Penta, our trade partners, our social media profiles, and Google Maps. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.

Direct marketing

If you’ve given us your contact details and consent, we may send you occasional updates about our services. Every marketing message will include an option to unsubscribe. To opt out at any time, click the unsubscribe link or email us at daniel@coastaldieselmarine.com.au.

Under the Privacy Act and the APPs you may:

  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you
  • Request that we correct personal information that is inaccurate, out-of-date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading
  • Withdraw consent for direct marketing at any time
  • Make a privacy complaint

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time — generally within 30 days. There is no fee for making a request, although we may charge a reasonable cost if you ask for a large amount of information.

If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC):

Children

This website is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us and we will delete it.

Overseas disclosure

Some of the third-party providers we use to host, store or process information (for example, analytics, email and backup tools) may be located outside Australia. Where this is the case, we take reasonable steps to ensure those providers handle your personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
